Spare, hauntingly beautiful, lovely voice

"You don't have to know Russian to appreciate the stark beauty of this treasure. Julia Vorontsova's lovely sing/whisper voice -- which grabs you from the start with "Older" ("St. Petersburg-St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg" cascading out of her pouty mouth in staccato fashion) and minimalist acoustic guitar arrangements are hauntingly beautiful, somehow conveying her homeland's torturous history in a brilliantly understated way...Don't let the weird album cover scare you off: what's inside is wonderful. (I clicked 4 stars by mistake; should be five...)

"I learned of this artist by watching a birthing show on TV. Julia was having her second child and playing the gutiar during labor. Her voice took me in right away. They made mention she had already had a CD published at age 18yrs.
I came right to Amazon and ordered it. I cannot speak Russian but you do not have to, to enjoy the CD. She just has a voice that is so pleasant to listen to. It is hard to believe she is so young.
If you like to listen to different languages and have a taste of the culture this is a wonderful way to start. Highly recommend."
