Synopsis
Album Description 2009 release from the Hard Rock vocalist best known for his stint fronting Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force. On Beautiful Mess, for which Jeff Scott Soto has become JSS, he blends the influences he grew up loving into one Beautiful Mess indeed. From the rocking soul of '21st Century' to the sultry 'Gin & Tonic Sky' to the greasy Funk of 'Bring It Home' to the Beatle-esque 'Kick It', JSS leaves no stone unturned on this release, pleasing fans old and new alike. Beautiful Mess was co-written and produced by the savvy Swedish producer/writer Paulo Mendon?a. Frontiers. |
CD ReviewsChange in direction but not a good change! Michael | Australia | 05/27/2009 (2 out of 5 stars) "Jeff Scott Soto is usually associated with hard rocking music and melodic yet powerful vocals. This album has neither of those. The music is modern but way too laid back and the lyrics are sappy and underwhelming. I feel sorry for JSS as he hasn't been able to break into the big time despite making some classic albums with Talisman and his excellent previous solo album Lost in Translation. He had a crack with Journey but they let him go without an explanation. I feel like this is a desperate attempt to hit the popular market that he's been craving. It's a market his influences like Seal and Lenny Kravitz and Prince have been masters of for years but I don't think it's where JSS strength is. Please go back to what you do best - rocking hard! Looking forward to the next album!" Fantastic New Direction Kelsey K. McCall | Atlanta, GA | 03/07/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "Having "discovered" Jeff Scott Soto just a few years ago, I became quickly impressed with his amazing vocal ability and song writing skills with Talisman, Yngwie Malmsteen, Takara, Eyes, as well as a brief stint as the lead singer for Journey. Known in many circles as the hardest working man in show business, JSS has been a force on the European Rock scene, hailing from Los Angeles.
This album marks a different direction from his more melodic rock resume, heading to a more slight pop/funk/r&b influence. Make no mistake that this is a rock album, but on with subtle influences. Some Prince & Lenny Kravitz influences are evident. For those that are already established fans, this will be a treat to listen to if you have an open mind. If you are expecting a follow up to his previous album, Lost in the Translation, then this may be a dissapointment. At the end of the day, you are still treated to an excellent album with JSS' trademark fantastic song writing and lush, goose bump producing chorus'. While I hope for another compliment to his prior album, LITT, I am equally excited to see where he goes from here and if this is a permanent change/new direction. Enjoy!" |
