""I have drunken deep of [The Joy Project], and I will taste no other wine tonight," to painfully misquote Shelley. But my poorly written review is the ONLY deficiency related to this CD. The tracks are any combination of hypnotic, revealing, sentimental, romantic, soothing and FUNKY, FUNKY, FUNKY! Mind you, this is no hypno/acid jazz that leaves you cold. This is upbeat and substantive. It is at once MOR and D-n-B! It is captivating. It is fresh and unique. It WILL make you smile. It WILL make you move and groove. And sometimes it will even make you think. (Can you believe it?!) This is something you HAVE to hear. In a word, each track can be described as... 1-joyful 2-riotous 3-beautiful 4-inventive 5-sentimental 6-funny 7-rapturous 8-engaging 9-bewitching 10-hypnotic 11-powerful 12-alluring 13-commotive 14-lovely ...blithePay attention to track four and observe the frequency modulation that makes a tone seamlessly transform from "wa-wa pedal on acid" to "Stratocaster played with dentist drill!" Ingenious! The "band" lives up to its name: It is impossible to listen to this and not feel better. Do yourself a favor and claim your copy NOW!"

"A mere five star rating is a hopelessly limp evlauation of Duffy's tour de funk. If you are not excited to the point of nausea by 'Way Out Here', you are a corpse. Sit back and allow yourself to be devoured whole and and spat out only to be eaten again by its insatiable groove. Buy this album or your friends will consider you the very soul of ennui."

"From Ink19.com: "You would have to be seriously, seriously miserable to not be in a good mood when you listen to The Joy Project. Hard to explain exactly, it's a little loungy, totally filtered, '70s-type porn music cool, groovy with chunky beats and smooth, rain-slicked melody. This is the type of music that if we all didn't know you were the coolest cat in the world, we might beat you up for listening to. It's saxxy and at times borderline jazz (except for the iMac vocals on "Example #4: Love"). This is a great, innovative, cheery, beautiful CD. Even if you're not really cool, this CD is so good, it's worth getting beat up for.""

"This is a nice mix which won't be on the Tiger Beat hot listening lists. No pre-teens going crazy here and don't expect The Joy Project to appear on TRL. Personally I am a fan of Art of Noise, Style Counsel, and Brian Eno, so that's why I gave it a five star rating. The creative powers that be in this "group" are fresh, original and unique. This CD is perfect for a lights down low, sit by the fire with your lover or a good book moment. Crank it up and try to identify the subtle sounds and samples. Note the amount of instrumentation used in each song. This is truly music for the intellectual listener."

"It's comforting to know there's someone out there -- way out there -- making music with such imagination and intelligence. These songs distinguish themselves from most contemporary music the way all great art distinguishes itself: with real dynamic variety. It's there in the rich arrangements, their crescendos and diminuendos. It's there in the tension between Dr. Duffy's frenetic beats and his distended melodies. It's even there in his sense of humor: listen to "Liberty Street," for God's sake, and listen closely. When that simple, poignant vocal sample comes around for the third time, Duffy can't help but come in with the harmony. And the harmony is so compelling he can't help but exclaim, "Woo!" Then he immediately reintroduces the beat. The effect is that of a quick cutaway in a really good movie. What a light touch this guy's got. And what an ear. Buy his album. You'll "Woo!" too."
