"I was so surprised when Amazon sent me the news that Josie had released this new CD. I had bought her 2006 release MOVIE DISASTER MUSIC and was not expecting another so soon. I have been a devoted fan since her CONVERTIBLE MUSIC lp had become one of my all-time favorite albums. Her second FROM THE HIP never seemed to live up to the first, but the years have been very kind to this effort & now it seems to be a marvelous continuation to CONVERTIBLE(especally if you listen to it on the both-on-one CD available on Amazon.)
Back to the B-Girls: I wasn't sure if I could "cotton" up to this newest release as I had never actually heard any of these "B-list title songs from C-list movies".* My first thought when I opened this disc was what a wonderful collection of photos of Josie, especially since her last one had a half-shot of her face and another very shadowy view of her. B-Girls is a revelation of Josie in a multitude of genre~tastic poses!
According to the liner notes by John Waters(*also quoted above)Josie makes these obscure exploitation movie theme songs "sound like hits for the first time." I knew I always liked Waters for some reason! He is so right. Josie has lovingly brought these songs up to date and made them her own. Each one is a whole movie into itself and ranges from rockin' to beautiful ballads(even a love song to Godzilla~~one of my favorites!) Thank you Scruffy Records for bringing our B-Girl back, and as Mr. Waters says "she will always be an A-list singer in my book.""
