Forgotten gems

"Why aren't these quartets performed more often? I've always found Jongen to be a grossly under-rated composer - every piece I've heard by him reveals a fine craftsman with a highly original mind. Thank goodness more of his works are finally being released on disc - but there's so much more out there! I'm told there's close to 7 hours of solo piano music alone, most of it never recorded. Any music lover who enjoys the quartets of Ravel, Debussy and Roussel will find these works delightful - rush out and buy this disc!

For aficianadoes of that most refined genre, the string quartet: for those who think they've heard every notable SQ available: a nice disc of lovely SQs in the Ravelian manner by native Belgian composer Joseph Jongen (1873-1953).
Early Quartet (1894) in c-minor.
Later Quartet (1916) in A-major.
Both excellent in form and content.
Nice Belgian label; made in France. Nice price. TT: 70mins.
