"There must be a Myslivecek revival underway--and no wonder. His music is exquisite. This collection is something of a complement to the recent recording of symphonies done by the London Mozart Players. It includes fresh recordings of six symphonies found on that collection, plus a selection of opera overtures. The London Mozart Players used modern instruments, this ensemble uses historical instruments. It's hard to tell which rendition is better. The opera overtures are a special treat. They make you wish you were back in 18th-century Italy sitting in one of the theaters where Myslivecek's operas were performed. They are lively, harmonically imaginative, and full of beautiful moods and melodies. It's amazing that they have waited so long to be recorded. The question always comes up when listening to this recording: how much else of beauty did this composer produce that is still unavailable in modern recording?"
