"All remaining Jose Mojica's fans have two things in common: 1)Our long time, neverending loyalty and an addiction to his incomparable voice and singing style. 2)We are sorry that he was not recorded more extensively during his early years and much later during his brief comeback to recorded music. Jose Mojica was born in Mexico and became a renowned singer during the 20's. His greatest recorded hit for RCA in Mexico was Maria Grever's "Jurame" a beautiful ballad that sounds best when sung by Mojica. After having recorded over one dozen songs and toured Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America as well as singing and acting on early "talkie films" and the theatre in Mexico and several countries, Mojica decided to quit and became a priest and a missionary under the catholic "Order of St.Francis of Assisi". After several decades of work as a priest and missionary in Latin America, Mojica, briefly returned to the recording studios in Mexico and recorded for the "Orfeon" label. This happened around the late 50's or early 60's and the result was the 15 musical jewels of this CD. Hear Mojica's "Torna A Sorrento", "Granada", "Besame Mucho", "Alma Mia", and of course his old classics, "Jurame", "Gratia Plena", "La Borrachita" and "Por Que" and you will be transported to another era, when good music and good voices reigned supreme. Unfortunately this is the only CD of recordings by Jose Mojica available, there were a couple of releases for other labels in vinyl during the late 60's which have never been re-issued on CD format. Jose Mojica died during the early 70's, his final mission in the priesthood being in Peru, South America. He was definitely among the greatest Latin American singers of the 20th Century. Buy this CD and enjoy listening to a priviledged voice!"
Not his best, but still good

"For many years, this was the only recording you could get of Jose Mojica on CD. However, these recording are of Mojica out of his prime. His RCA and Edison recordings are definitely his best. There are some gems on this though. His "Borrachita" is great and his "Te Quero Dijiste," and "Maria Elena" are very good. His "Jurame" is nothing compared to his RCA recording of it. Mojica was the first to sing Grever's "Jurame." I complain frequently about deeper tenors trying to cover Jurame."
Magnifico !

"I am 39 - once growing up, my father, Pablo Mojica, told me that he had an uncle that was a tenor and an actor and left both professions to serve the catholic church. I am sorry that I waited so long to research this great man. I can't wait to see him on film."

"This cd is a must for latin music lovers. It was Jose Mojica whom Agustin Lara wrote a song about: Solamente Una vez. He wrote the song in dedication for him before he left the entertainment world and went to become a priest or a monk. I can't remember which one he became. This cd is a must. One of the classic voices of the golden era of bolero music."
