"Solamente la biografia
de este compositor brasileiro,
es sorprendente y admirable.
Conciderando el hecho de que
Brazil fue la ultima nacion
del mundo en aboler la esclavitud,
este compositor hizo casi lo imposible.
El queria que se escuchara su musica
sin que se le diera importancia al color
de su piel. Logro trascender las clases
sociales, la discriminacion, y los irrespetos
de la corte portuguesa. En esta grabacion
podemos escuchar Ensemble Turicum, que
interpreta en instrumentos de epoca, y dirigida
por Luiz Alves da Silva, y Mathias Weibel, ambos
maestros de la interpretacion autentica. Todas
las obras fueron compuestas en Rio de Janeiro entre
1793 y 1813. Magistral grabaccion, como para no
perdersela......."

"By accident I picked up this CD in a store. I had never heard of Nunes Garcia, nor did I know that such music was being produced in Brazil at that time. This is quite easily the very best mass setting to which I have ever listened. And I know (& love) Mozart's, Hadyn's, Bach's and the other European masters settings of the mass. It transcends musically, emotionally, and, most importantly, spiritually the experience of listening to a mass setting. I can close my eyes and be there, filled with the glory of God as revealed through music."
