"One of the hottest singers in NY's Latin music scene in the 60's Cheo Felicano came back in '72 with this jewel that marked his return for good. With Tite Curet Alonso's awesome compositions and supported by an all-star cast that includes such favorites as Larry Harlow (piano), Orestes Vilato (timbales), Bobby Valentin (bass), Louie Ramirez (vibes), Ismael Quintana (maracas) and Johnny Rodriguez (bongos) among others, this horn-less session presents Cheo back in his familiar "sextet" environment. This recording contains the perennial classics "Anacaona", "Mi Triste problema", "Pa' que afinquen" and "Si por mi llueve". Cheo's voice is at it's best and the music just flows with such a drive... you will be moving something after the first two minutes of play! And Cheo is one of the few "soneros" that is also a great "bolero" singer, he makes you stop and listen. If you have never heard this music before be ready for a good dose of clean, solid and swinging "salsa". Be sure to get the follow-up recording "With A Little help from my Friend" too, is as good as this one and they just go together...Enjoy!"
The start of Cheo's prolific solo career.

"Cheo's solo career got started with this indispensable album that includes the all-time classics "Anacaona", "Mano Caliente", "Mi Triste Problema" and "Pienso En Ti". Cheo is undeniably an all-around excellent singer who is equally good as an improvising salsa sonero and as a romantic bolero singer. Once you listen to and enjoy this album you will see why Cheo is so highly esteemed and revered by many of today's younger salseros. NOTE: This CD gives the album release year as 1976 but (for some reason) the original LP lists 1971."
