Album DescriptionJonny Abeles ?Jonny on the Spot?, even before its release had received acclaim and airplay from several Disc Jockeys throughout the United States. This is the second release from Jonny Abeles and was recorded on Friday, February 9, 2001 between the hours of 11:30am ? 5:30pm (15 songs). As the title suggests Jonny was on the spot to get this recording completed within this very small time frame. This was due to tight schedules and limited resources. Jonny decided to compile a list comfortable tunes that he has been performing for years. Tardo Hammer (piano), was only in town for a couple days in between tours with the great, Annie Ross. Tardo?s other credits include: Chris Connor, Art Farmer, Johnny Griffin and David Allyn, amongst many others. Jonny says, ?I have played with Tardo for over 6 years and wouldn?t have wanted to do this recording with any one else. Tardo understands my musical sensibilities and is the greatest accompanist I have ever worked with.? Thi! s compatibility is best displayed on Track #14, ?I Thought About You?. This Mercer/ Van Heusen ballad was performed in a single take with just piano and voice. Tardo has a solo records under his own name; his latest is ?Somethin? Special? on Sharp Nine Records. The other members of the band Jonny has known and played with for many years. Pat O?Leary, on bass, has performed with: Dianna Kral, Bob Dorough, Terri Thornton, Illinois Jacquet and Lionel Hampton. Steve Berger, guitar, has worked with: Bob Dorough, John Colianni, Red Mitchell and Buck Clayton. John Arnold, drums, (who co-produced the session with Jonny) comes from very strong genes; he is Hoagy Carmichael?s grandson. His credits include: Barney Kessel, Lee Konitz, Ray Bryant and Chet Baker.
