"... especially if you're a jazz drummer. Expect to get lost. Jon threw out the book on time keeping a long time ago and never looked back. There is some incredible stuff here, ranging from complex to simple, very free to very tight. It all centers on Jon's unique style, so even though the songs come from artists as remote as Ralph Towner and Kitel Bjornstad, the whole CD has a clear muiscal center. --There is an insert with some photos, but only a few aphorisms from the man himself, which is too bad.If drumming matters to you and you've never heard Jon Christensen, start here."

"This is a tribute from "ECM records" to the most recorded drummer of this label and He is one of the most interesting drummer in the world . Few more than teen- ager, in the 60's Jon was yet with George Russell , Karin Krog , Steve Kuhn , then drummer of early Jan garbarek band, then with the Keith Jarrett quartet ( the here included 2 traks are something of the best of that band) , he has played with all the most important musicians : Holland, Wheeler, Vitous, Lloyd, Taylor , Surman, Rava,Lovano,Towner, Stanko and many more. Here you find a sampler of his unique style( above all in "war orphans" )always a musical pleasure and never heavy ( listen him so light and sparkle in "Per Ulv" -recorded in the mid 70's jazz rock era-) discover his amazing musical approach( "my song", "personal mountain") learn to recognize him once heard even only the distinctive touch on his wonderful old "K" istanbul cymbal, you will never forget him ."I never practice drums , I play it " he said... discover the difference on this CD .Drummers can't miss."
