"To see and hear and feel the power of JT was a sub-terminal high in so many ways and means. We loved the sound and the fury; and this version does capture some of that stuff, if not the tipped over the top power of the moment, from the Mercer Arts Center to CBGB era.
This submitted from one of the several jamokes from NJ that used to shoot pool at Hilly Kristal's place on the Bowery...
OK,GV"

"Johnny always performed well before hungry audiences. And he strikes well here. But what lacks here is what is deficient on on all records where Johnny is without a guitar counterpart--it seems as if the Fourth of July were without the fireworks that make you call the cops; it's the trouble you expect, but not the TROUBLE. This is a good set, and Johnny is well aware of his war-zone surroundings, yet it lacks the killer instinct we find in the Max's record and DTK."
