"Calling this CD "A Johnny Hodges CD", is misleading. Actually this CD features all members of the band, and on many tracks Hodges does not even play one note.
All musicians here are great, the prime Ellingtonians. There are tracks featuring Harry Carney, Paul Gonsalves, and even Ray Nance on violin.
My favorite is the long blues "In the Kitchen" led by Hodges. Hodges is one of those rare musicians who can make each note sound great. As a blues player Hodges is second to no one - up there with Parker, Young and Monk.
Personally I would prefer to hear more of Hodges than the other musicians, but the CD still sounds great. Recommanded to all who want to hear more of Hodges' companions, or to those who already own many Hodges CD's."
