Synopsis
Album Description 2008 digitally remastered and expanded edition of the debut album from the '80s pop trio responsible for the huge hit 'Shattered Dreams'. Led by vocalist Clark Datchler, JHJ were an instant hit with their slick hook-filled late '80s Pop, best experienced on this album, originally released in 1987, Once the band had achieved worldwide success, Datchler left the band for a solo career and the other two members recruited a new singer and continued on. This 16 track edition features the entire 10 track album (with two 'alternate' mixes replacing original versions) plus six extended mixes of their singles including 'Heart Of Gold', 'Turn Back The Clock', 'Foolish Heart' and 'Shattered Dreams. CD ReviewsTHIS is how you do a reissue--plus a little bonus for fans o Daniel W. Kelly | Long Island, NY United States | 05/29/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "here in the states, JHJ had only one big hit, and the inclusion of the 12" version here was the reason I bought this disc. The remaining songs are very listenable but very mainstream and pop (suffering from late 80s radio-friendly priorities), nothing to get too excited about. However, the song Foolish Heart is a fantastic mellow track that just carries you along--almost Ultravox-esque at times. After hearing the album version, I was hoping to hear the song brought to new levels on the 12" version, but instead, the extended version predominantly drops the rhythm track from the whole song, completely changing the feel--to something quite boring.
On the plus side, I had no idea JHJ released this many 12" singles, but they are all here, preserved in digital. There's even an unreleased version of Turn Back The Clock--what makes it different from the LP mix and the 12" mix I think is simply the fact that Kim Wilde does not sing background vocals. Oh yeah. That's the other thing. Kim sings background vocals on that track, so if you're a Kim completist, well, then you simply have to get this disc. Track times for the bonus 12" singles are: 11. Shattered Dreams (5:10) 12. Heart of Gold (6:42) 13. Turn Back The Clock (7:03) 14. Don't Say It's Love (6:10) 15. Foolish Heart (5:50) 16. Turn Back The Clock (unreleased version) (4:35)" |
