Why Griffin's best albums are always "limited edition"?

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This one is another limited edition OJC from the very long Griffin's list. OJC put almost every Griffin's album in the limited edition series, I can't understand why. These albums are so great that OJC should never even think to put them out of stock. But this is how it goes. So if you love sixties Jazz do yourself a favour and buy this cd from Griffin as soon as possible because it is probably one of his best and you could find it no more in few months. Even if Griff was the "fastest gun in the west" here he played in a different way, more balanced I might say. He choose notes with more attention and sensibility. His sound is incredible, soft but authoritative, his phrasing terribly right. The line up consists of the Montgomery brothers (Monk and Buddy), unfortunatly Wes is not included. Buddy played piano and vibes on a couple of tunes. Absolutly stellar the opener and title track and the second tune, "Midnight sun will never set" a ballad with Buddy on vibes. The mix of Buddy's vibes and Griff's tenor is something that has to be heard to be believed. Incredible album. Buy it soon because in case you will not find this album anymore you'll be sorry.
