"English professor, seminarian, rock singer -- what's a more natural combination? On first blush I thought the wry religious themes in the lyrics were purely sarcastic, but the irreverence is directed at religious hypocrisy and intolerance rather than at religion per se. Nonetheless, even for a confirmed atheist like me, the religious content is clever and literate enough to be thought provoking, at times amusing, and not at all preachy or intrusive. It is one of my all-time favorite albums."
