NOT a Live Album...Doesn't Matter

"Not live in concert, that is. Live in studio, according to the liner notes. These days such a studio recording would be too risky. Or daring.Whatever the circumstances, this is a great album. John Berry's outstanding vocals are front and center (the Man Who Needs No Microphone -- except to keep him from drowning out the musicians), as they should be. The musicians are solid, too, clear, strong, muscular, with nice touch. A bit Rock-y for hard core Country fans, but hearing John strut his stuff is always a pleasure to behold. This was John Berry shortly before he broke into the Nashville big time in the 90's. As always, he defies categorization, perhaps to the detriment of his musical career. Or is it our gain that he doesn't have to follow the corporate suit directive? Such a pure singer; if you ever hear him live (really live) in concert, your eyes will go wide with astonishment as your ears clue you in to such an astounding event. This album, for just a few bucks now, what a steal. He smokes just about everybody out there. Buy it and treat yourself."
