I wanted the music to the first song 'Getting Better', but was pleased to get so many other great Mamas & Papa music.

"I first saw this film about a week ago, and ever since have had a couple of the songs stuck in my head ("Dream a Little Dream," "Move in a Little Closer Baby") and so had to get the CD. The unusual thing about that is that I really don't care for the pop music of the sixties, as a rule! But Mama Cass' great voice won me over--she was a real talent. And so many of these songs are just so darn catchy, you'll find yourself singing right along with them. Of course, all of these pop songs are available on other CDs by Mama Cass or the Mamas and the Papas, but this is a good introduction to their music if you don't have any of their recordings at hand.Perhaps the main reason I bought this CD, however, is for the last track, which is background music from the film. The music is beautiful, played by a piano, guitar, and strings. It's rather haunting, with a wistful, melancholy feel to it, and brings some of the more touching scenes in the film to mind. And even though the track is only eight minutes long, it was well worth the cost of the entire CD just to have a good recording of this music to listen to...."
Must have!

"I really do not know where to start:) I saw the movie for this soundtrack on late night cable years ago, and have watched it every time I've had the chance since. Great Movie and the music just accented the film so well it was truly amazing. I bought the soundtrack off ebay and its just an amazing collection of songs from an artist I had not heard of until I had seen the movie. Young, old, whatever this is a must get CD. If you dont buy the CD at least got the song "Dream a little dream of me", which is the best song on the album:)"
Terrific movie, terrific CD

"The movie was so amazing that I bought it along with the CD. It encompasses all of the Mama Cass songs from the movie plus many additional Mamas and Papas songs. It's truly a great CD from start to finish. Feel good, upbeat music. Definately worth it."

"Uptight straight guys like me will have to be careful under what circumstances they listen to this music, so as not to be found out, but this is really a great collection. Mama Cass has a beautiful singing voice, and although I can't pretend to know a lot about her, I'd be surprised to find that these weren't most of her best songs. It really gives you a sense of a bygone age; the sweetness and purity of the sentiment, and the guileless energy of the music. Some of the songs, also, are deceptively complex; take 'Go Where You Wanna Go,' which isn't as cheerful as it seems at first. The music may have a simple sound, but the lyrics can explore subjects with a depth that pop music almost never approaches today. The soundtrack as a whole, too, is a great purchase, being more cohesive than most soundtracks, and with a logical track order. The single instrumental track is also very good."
Terrific stuff to relive the movie!

"If you saw (or even bought) the movie Beautiful Thing, this is an absolute must have too. The first 8 tracks can be heard in the movie (ABSOLUTELY GREAT) and the following 7 tracks are additional songs not featured in the movie. The final 4 tracks listed (although only one track on my CD-player) is the beautiful background music by John Altman. Too bad that they didn't include the track "Sixteen, going on seventeen" that was also featured in the movie. Listening to this CD certainly gave me a positive feeling and brought me back to one of my favorite movies."
