My Favorite Instrumental Christmas Album of ALL Time....

"As most of these songs are medieval in origin, they have been rendered in the traditional musical intruments of that time (mandolin, harp, dulcimer). The price of the album alone is worth it simply for their version of Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence, which segues into Personant Hodie ("On This Day Earth Shall Ring"), a little known, but charming, French medieval carol. Other great songs are Good Christian Men Rejoice, Patapan (another French children's carol), Hark! The Herald Angel's Sing, Ding Dong Merrily on High.



I first heard this collection of songs on a cassette that my sister gave me, in 1994. I played it every year until it literally disintegrated. This year I got the brilliant idea of searching for it on Amazon, and lo and behold, there it was! It is such a beautiful, beautiful CD of some of the best Christmas music every written.

"Imagine you're walking through a beautiful Christmas crafts shop...maybe somewhere near Gatlinburg or out in an old small country town marveling at the decor and the beautiful Christmas gifts. The lights are twinkling, you're carrying around a warm cup of hot chocolate and stopping near the crackling fire place. You take in the warm scent of pine, cinnamon and nutmeg mixed with some other spices you can't quite distinguish. Not too loudly you hear this beautiful dulcimer music floating through the air with some of your favorite carols played in the historic traditions of our ancestors. Immediately you know this is how Christmas music should be enjoyed.



This is how I got sucked into buying this CD...and I've been hooked ever since!! When I have people over to celebrate the season or if I want to curl up by the fire next to the Christmas tree, this is the CD I put in. This is THE ultimate Christmas mood music!!"
