Great New Orleans Piano Blues

"Joe Krown is an incredible blues piano player in the funky tradition of the great Professor Longhair. Krown plays piano with Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown and has absorbed his earthy quality and distinctive New Orleans musical sound, but also adds a unique quality to his keyboard work. Most of the cuts are his own compositions. His music is firmly rooted in indigenous New Orleans rhythm and blues, but he brings his own idiosyncratic style to numbers by the 'Fess and Ray Charles. (His version of the 'Fess's "Big Chief" is one of the best covers of that song that I've heard, along with the version done John Cleary.) I saw him perform live in New Orleans (his hometown) and he is equally good in person. He's a real talent who deserves wider recognition. Anyone who's a fan of New Orleans R & B piano and such artists as Dr. John will like this CD."
Blues Piano at its Best

"I bought this CD originally to learn some blues piano riffs, and I've not been disappointed. As the title indicates, this is pure piano without accompaniment of any kind. It sounds as if Mr. Krown walked into the studio, said "Let's do this," and started tearing it up. Raw and dirty. If you like piano blues at all, you've got to buy this. You won't be sorry."
