Joe The KING

"This album was made before Joe formed the Crowns, his backing band for quite few albums after this one. It was recorded with the then cream of San Antonio "West Side" musicians including the great Rocky Morales on sax. I bought this on album when it was first released and was overjoyed to find it on CD. There's no "Extras" on this which is disappointing but it still rates 5 stars for it's rockin' good-time, bluesy, tex-mex ragged but right music. This is the stuff for parties and drinking. I cannot say that this is a technically great album or has any social or philasophical merit, it's just an album I truly LOVE. Visit Joe's website and find out more about him."

"Recorded as an LP in 1978 for the small Lisa records label, an original is next to impossible to find. Why would you want one? Check this legendary San Antonio "Friends of Doug Sahm" lineup: Augie Meyers, Keyboards; Louie Bustos, Tenor Sax; Art "Sauce" Gonzales, Keyboards; Dave Mercer, Farfisa Organ; Frank "Jalapeno" Rodarte, Saxophone; Speedy Sparks, Bass & Drums; Charlie MacBurney, Trumpet. You can't help but grin through the whole thing - what could be better? These guys were totally full of energy and at the top of their game - the "Westside Sound" that you can hear nowhere else!"
