Joe, the pre-'I don't wanna be a playa no more' dayz...

"If you want to know what Joe sounded like before he started making bling-bling, u gotta get this. This is the definitive, pre-crossover, uncut, breakout cd that made people take notice. Then he had to go bite that R. Kelly-Brian McKnight thing when he did 'I don't wanna be a playa no more'. You know, that strong-but-sensitive, street-wise-but-soft-enough-for-MTV-and-Top-40-type R&B. Oh well, we understand Joe; everybody's got to pay their bills. At least I still have 'everything' to enjoy in its vocally unrestrained, riff-heavy glory. Now, about the CD: The songwriting to me is average at best for this type of R&B, but that's not why I recommend it. Its the vocal performance. At the time there were a lot of male R&B vocalists out there that could do lot of what Joe could do vocally, but very few could excute and finish like him. He sounds like he is singing with passion and purpose, and not just to be showing off. With a slightly nasal tone, fast, well-defined and controlled arpeggios and tripletts(riffs - for those of you who don't know), and a powerful, somewhat raspy attitude on his high notes, he sounded like what he really was at the time: a gospel singer singing R&B. And that's what makes this CD unique. From 'The One for Me' to 'I Can do it Right', Joes' real identity shines through. Fans who expect to find in this debut remnants of 'All that I am' and 'My name is Joe' probably won't be able understand or appreciate 'Everything', because that is Joe is giving you vocally...EVERYTHING."

"Back in the summer of 1993.. A unknown burst on the scene delivered a highly consisted and very enjoyable but very underrated debut .. It scored a minor hit called I'm In Luv but it just didnt stop there through out this disc Joe showed brillance in the way he mixed funky uptempo grooves with the sensual slow grooves that could make any evening a hot evening.. Perfect example of these tracks are these cuts All Or Nothing, Everything.. What's On Your Mind.. Joe have a knack for knowing what to say and how to say it..If you all dont have his first disc and highly recommeded it.. Joe is one of the brightest talented singers, songwriters, producers in music today his accomplishments are growing constantly. Now with his latest accomplishment and his best accomplishment so far his new album My Name Is Joe plus all the accomplishments he has done on soundtracks and guest apperances with The late and great Big Pun and Songbird Mariah Carey.. Maybe this brother will get the props he so rightly deserves.."

"This is a great effort 4 Joe . He is capable of doing some good songs." All or Nothing", "Everything" and " The One for Me" are my favorites. There are some other good tracks but its a "OK" album. Still MY NAME IS JOE is his best album yet. If you really like old school funk R&B and you are a DIEHARD fan of Joe, its worth it."

"Joe was Straight Up Slept on when he came out with Everything, but that's alright because now he is getting props for being the man that can sernade a woman like nobody's buisness. Everything has some real nice material. The song Alright was my favorite, Joe actually convinced me that everything was going be alright. This cd is worth buying even now, although it's been about 7 seven years. I also enjoyed the song All or Nothing and the song If Loving You is Wrong. If you haven't heard this cd, Go Get It because it was just the beginning of Joe's Success. One Love."
