CD Reviews

Offers listeners a reminiscent feeling of Monet's Paris

"Definitely for lovers and those who have had their hearts recently broken........soft, flowing music. Dassin's voice is painstakingly accurate in portraying feelings of true love or heartache depending on the song.Les Jardins Du Luxembourg and L'Ete Indian are the two most wonderful tracks on this CD taking listeners to that time when Paris was romance personified!"
The Garden of Music and Poetry

"This album was the first compilation of Dassin's recordings that I heard as a kid in 1980. I believe that was the year of his untimely death. The album is great: the title track, "Il etait une fois nous deux," "A Toi," and "Le Cafe des 3 colombes" are as good as anything I've heard of world music. I believe Dassin was born in New York to the family of the film director Jules Dassin, but lived most of his life in France. His colloboration with the Italian great Toto Cutugno, took Dassin to the height of his career, just before his health suddenly and tragically failed."
Modern French classic: wistful yearning/seductive sound

"Joe Dassin died tragically almost two decades ago but his music still defines the modern French male. Dassin's poignant, romantic sound will evoke bitter-sweet memories among those who have loved deeply, and wistful yearnings in those who hope to. Destined to become a classic in any sophisticated collection of CDs."
