"Joe Albany was a good friend. I made many recordings of him in the mid '50s, most in small clubs in Southern California. The release of this album was an "accident." Warne Marsh took a second copy - that is, two removed from the original, to Atlantic with the intent of getting an opinion from their people. With no communication back to me, the album suddenly (about 4 months later) appeard. I tried to get them to re-master from the original - but to no avail - thus the apparent poor quality. Actually, with the exception of a small, acoustically dead room, the original is quite pleasant. Joe was a true gentleman - I miss him very much. Richard Stambaugh resnpc@transport.com"
