THE COMPLETE 1958-1961 RECORDINGS Born in 1931 and 87 years old at this writing, singer/song writer João Gilberto is a living legend of bossa nova. While Antonio Carlos Jobim set the standard for the creation of bossa nova in the mid-?50s (with songs like ?The Girl From Ipanema? and ?Desafi nado?), it was Gilberto who brilliantly reimagined (and, arguably, defi ned) the genre. This CD presents all of Gilberto?s master recordings as a leader from his early years, including his three initial LPs in their entirety, as well as rare tracks like his original versions of ?Manhã de Carnaval?, ?O Nosso Amor? and ?A Felicidade?, originally issued on 7-inch discs. The latter two, which were fi rst comprised into an edited-medley to fi t the 7-inch format, appear here as originally recorded, in their complete form.
