Synopsis

Amazon.com
In 1996 the release of Connor's third rockin' blues album spread word of her talent as a guitarist, singer, and songwriter. A committed player who paid her dues on the Chicago blues scene with the likes of Johnny Littlejohn and James Cotton, Connor plays lines that are deep and clean, usually heated to a boil, often with a slider used on the strings. As a vocalist, Connor's assured phrasing and earthy tone prove to be effective both when she asserts her spiritual side, as on "Meditations," and when she celebrates lustiness, as on "You Should Be My Lover." Connor, a Massachusetts native, wrote all 11 songs on this album, and not one is less than enjoyable. Bonus track "Smoke It Up" seems like a ganja-induced reggae goof. --Frank-John Hadley

"If there was ever a doubt that a woman could play heavy-duty lead guitar like the men, it is completely and irrevocably dispelled on this CD. Joanna Connor is " proof positive" that women can wail and flail with the best of them. She moves between slide and traditional guitar with ease and is equally marvelous at both. The fact that she does it all on a Les Paul adds to the thrill. She also happens to sing and write well too. I have owned this CD for quite some time and every time I play it, it never ceases to amaze me. It is Blues but some tunes have a rock edge, which actually allows Joanna allot more room to display her 6 string talents. The best endorsement I can give this CD, is that everyone I play it for the first time runs right out a buys it."
Her guitar must be made of asbestos!

"That's the only explation for why it does not burst into flames! This is really hot, smokin', searin', slide guitar work. Joanna's vocal delivery and song lyrics combine with her burning guitar work to produce an outstanding blues-rock CD. She is definetly on the level with Bonnie Raitt but has a stylistic delivery all her own. I also recomend both her other two albums. I was first introduced to her on a BLIND PIG RECORDS sampler cd, and I recomend the entire BLIND PIG catalouge."
Great vocals, great guitar playing

"A rocking blues album! The CD contains both ballads and hard-rocking blues, all of which Ms. Connor plays quite wonderfully. I enjoy listening to this CD while I write."
