"I've been listening to Jo Ann Kelly sing and play blues for almost 40 years and have every recording I've been able to get my hands on. Since her all-to-early death in 1990 came the 3 individual Mooncrest CDs and the "Women In (E)Motion" CD and the "Been here and Gone" CD, and I though that was it. But low and behold, her husband has overseen this reissue plus bonus tracks (which I had never been able to find in its original form) which just may top them all!! This album is a wonder! Jo Ann solo, a cappella and with a small group. If you've never heard her recordings, this is a good place to start.
Oh, yeah - for her more hard-core fans, a few years ago Blues Matters magazine in England put out a CD of home recordings & live performances, with good sound considering the varied sources. As always, her performances are heartfelt and stirring, including some with Stefan Grossman and Sammy Mitchell. Titled "Blues & Gospel: Rare & Unreleased Recordings," it is available from the magazine or Amazon.co.uk."
