Jin "I Promise" Solid Release
Dorrie Wheeler | 11/13/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Jin , who is considered the first Chinese rapper, has released his latest CD "I Promise." The former Ruff Ryder released the disc on an independent label. "I Promise" was executive produced by Jin and Kamel.

"I Promise" is a 14 track (two skits make for 16 songs total) collection of well produced hard hitting beats. Jin is still rocking the flow he is known for and his lyrics are so original it's clear to see why he is so well known for his free-style ability. When it comes to being on the top of the music charts, Jin is comfortable with the fact that his career is happening in stages and phases. He refers to this on the track "Determination." He is in no ready to quit the game just because he hasn't reached the kind of success that some people require to feel like they made it. Jin wants to be on top of the game, and he speaks of his continued drive on the "Determination."

Jin sports a fast flow on the track "Doin' What I Do." The beat is bouncy and summertime in nature. Jin is joined on the track with Los Angeles lyricist Dina Rae. It's a stand out song on the album.

Jin has a huge fan base and he keeps in touch with his many fans via his Myspace page. He pays homage to his Myspace fans with the skit "Myspace Collabo," in which he declares he doesn't really do the Myspace collabo because he gets too many requests. It's a funny skit. Jin isn't one to buy CD's and he speaks on his affinity to download music on the song "I Download." He isn't one to purchase a CD from an artist unless he is truly convinced the purchase is worth his $12.

Jin pays homage to the female species with the song "36-24-36." The song has a smooth mellow track. Jin is joined on the track "Perfect Stranger" with Bryan Ellis. This is an R&B type of song. "Award Show" is a nostalgic track in which Jin laments about growing up watching awards shows and his enjoyment of award shows. Jin speaks about the death of his grandfather in the track "Chinese Food."

Overall, "I Promise" is a solid CD. Jin fans should be pleased. He offers up a little bit of everything on this much anticipated CD. Jin is an international hip-hop star, the MC has performed in China on several occasions. The New York transplant, via Miami, plans to stay in the hip-hop game for the long run.
