"This is a delightful recording. Nothing innovative or tricky here, just some straight ahead jazz from some of the best studio musicians of the 50's. Recorded on the Tampa (??) label in 1958 this set lead by pianist Jimmy Rowles features none other than Bareney Kessel, Red Mitchell, Mel Lewis, Harold Land, Larry Bunker and Pete Candoli - a virtual who's who of the 1950's west coast jazz scene. 12 cuts in all (two alternates) including several up tempo swing standards, some ballads and some blues. Hat's off to V.S.O.P. Records for saving another priceless gem from obscurity. Recording quality is good also. Highly recommended."
