"Opening track "Still Want To Be Your Man" has 2 of the greatest R&B singers in a duet. Props to Delbert McClinton. Best R&B duet I've heard in a long time. "Salty" is my favorite track. Vintage Jimmy singing a soulful ballad with Kira Small adding a sweet not salty ending. "Here I Am" is just a straight forward, excellent R&B tune. Yes Ma'm! "Poor old Me, "Coming After You" and "Watchdog" remind me of Jimmy's solo "Rendezvous with the Blues" excellent cd in the 90s. Wish Sony would release his other solo cds from the late 80's and early 90's. "Cover Me" is a sweet soulful ballad that is another highlight of this cd. "Build Your Own Fire" is straight ahead soulful blues with great guitar work. "It's All Wrong" is another great soulful ballad that reminds me of early Wet Willie ballad tunes. "What will I Do Without You" has a gospel blues feel to it. "I Found a True Love" is the least bluesy song, just one to continue to show off Jimmy's awesome voice. The bonus tracks are very good. Not too much different in my book, but another "Salty" is never wrong.

"Lord have mercy, Jimmy Hall sure can sing. Everytime I have heard him in performance or via recording, I have been blown away. Once, in a Gainesville FL bar on a Monday night, I was lucky enough to hear him with the Nighthawks on a slow night. By the evening's end, the place was sweating like a thousand juke joints. The paint was peeling off the walls! Jimmy and the boys were hotter than University Avenue on a July noon. Buy anything by Jimmy Hall. Now! Trust me."

"oh man oh man, this boy is the real deal. What a voice! I just love the way Jimmy wraps his voice around a song. Simply superb. This is a veteran performer who knows how to work his magic on a song. Oh yeah, the material here isn't bad either, ha ha! Just get this already, and get his Rendezvous With The Blues disc as well and listen to a pro at work.

Jimmy Hall Build Your Own Fire

"I am a big Jimmy Hall fan and would buy anything he puts out, this doesn't have the intensity that Jimmy Hall usually puts out there, but it is a tribute album. It has all the versitality that Jimmy can conjure up, he is an amazing musician not getting the credit he deserves. This southern boy needs to come up north and treat us to his music. Jimmy and Delbert McClinton need to do a whole album together....Shame on you for not digging into your pocket and buying this CD...."
Great soulful CD...showcases Jimmy's great voice

"I think this is a great album from one of my favorites. We get to see Jimmy every year on Delbert McClinton's Sandy Beaches cruise, but other than that, we don't get to see or hear him much since he doesn't tour, so it's nice to have something from Jimmy midyear to get us to the next cruise! This is a great collection of songs by a great song-writer (Eddie Hinton) i'd never heard of, but Jimmy does a great job honoring him in this album, singing each song with grit and soul. I like "Still Want to be Your Man" with Delbert singing along, but my favorite on the CD is "Salty"... "things got to get a little bit salty to let you know how it's going down". "Here I Am" has a funky beat that makes you wanna get up and dance. Cover Me is a beautiful love song..."Build Your Own Fire" is full of truthful lyrics anyone can identify with. I could go on and on..the CD is great. Get it. Every song is good when Jimmy Hall's singing it, and Jimmy's also got a great set of musicians backing him up that make this a great album."
