Excellent introduction to classic Davis

"This two CD set is an affordable and wide ranging introduction to the early career of Jimmie Davis. Davis' catalog was extremely diverse, covering country ballads to off color blues. Later in life he became a well known gospel performer, but this recording shows Davis at his early diverse best--a deeply important country artist whose recordings influenced greats such as Merle Haggard. For those who can't afford the Bear Family boxes, this collection is a nice choice."
