CD ReviewsSpectacular Album Jason D. Allen | Windsor, Colorado United States | 05/29/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "I would love to rate this 4.5 stars. This album, released in 1980, falls into a string of truly excellent work that Cliff did in the late 1970s and early 1980s (check out his other albums Give the People What They Want and Give Thanx). In my opinion, Jimmy Cliff is often unduly criticized for not putting out any material as roots-oriented as The Harder They Come. Cliff has never atempted to be a reggae purist and instead has stated on numerous occasions that he has always wanted to create a sound that could be appreciated all over the world by everyone that heard it. This record certainly comes close to his goal. True it is not "roots" but it is a wonderful and tasteful creation that blends reggae with folk, soul, and pop. Unlike some of his other 80s albums (which over-indulged in electronic funk), this album is very organic and expands the boundaries of reggae in a very natural and spiritual direction. This album stands the test of time and always seems to convey a mood of thoughtful meditation and thanksgiving in each song. I personally would recommend this album to anyone who likes Jimmy Cliff and would rank it among his top albums."
