"If you are at all hip to the real blues esthetic (and why would you be listening to Jimi if you weren't) you will dig this CD. It is underproduced, recorded in mono, and loose. It is alcohol drenched and joyful. In short, its almost everything thats great about the blues. Jimi's playing is not quite like the post-LSD Jimi, but still, if you ever heard someone play like this live it would be truly jaw-dropping. This guy is ON. He's already head and shoulders above his contemporaries in terms of spontaneity, feel, and technical brilliance, and the gap only widened from here on. Maybe not the first Hendrix album you should buy, but an essential."

"This cd was recorded in a small club in NJ in '65 when Jimi played back-up for Curtis Knight & the Squires. These recordings were taped in mono, but had stereo overdubs done sometime in the '70s to give it some depth (which is obvious when you here the bass & drums). Jimi only sings lead on a couple of tracks, with Knight doing the primary duties. The guitar playing is not great, but shows glimpses of the genius Jimi was to become. This album is for the completist only. If you are looking for Jimi playing some good blues tracks, try the official "Blues" release or the "BBC Sessions", both of which are readily available. If you must have these tracks, look for the "Complete PPX Recordings" 6cd box set ... . It has all of them & more, plus all the studio stuff he did with the Squires. Stay Experienced!"
