"Released as the second single from her debut album Who Is Jill Scott?, A Long Walk finds Jilly from Philly taking a relaxing stroll with a guy she's into in order to get to know him better. She understands that although "your background, it ain't squeaky clean", "we all are sinners" and "you put your good foot down and make your soul a winner." She loves his honesty, his smile, and his "peace mentality". They can do everything from seeing a play, reading from the Bible or the Koran, eating passion fruit, crying to the blues, or just being silent. All she wants is to be closer to him. The Dodge remixes enhance the family reunion/cookout vibe of the original with slightly funky hip-hop beats and a sample from Jodeci's Come And Talk To Me.
The video is especially creative. The camera takes the POV of Jill's love interest as he sweeps Jilly away from her chatty girlfriends on her North Philly stoop to the park where a bunch of kids are playing and double dutching. Don't blink or else you'll miss the cameo of Jill's mom. The video ends with Jill giving the camera a kiss and then the face of her man is shown. "Let's take a long walk around the park after dark/Find a spot for us to spark/Conversation, verbal elation, stimulation/Share our situations, temptations, education, relaxations/Elevations, maybe baby, maybe we can save the nation/Come on, Come on!""
