"uitarist Jesus Castro Balbi was born in Peru in 1951.Raised in a peruvian family,rich in traditional art and culture he began to give concerts in the age of 18 and by the time he was 20 years old he began to teach. Having a Doctorate of Music from the Allcante Conservatory,where he worked with Vicente Ascencio and Oscar Espla,he is now a professor at the Lyon Conservatory.He has won in allot international guitar competitions among which the first prize in the F.Tarrega and the A.Segovia competition in 1976.Having heard him play Narcico Yepes classed him amongst the "best guitarists in Europe". Jesus Castro Balbi,playing with a Contreras (+) guitar,has recorded two magnificent cds, this one and another on with works by A.M.Barrios on Opus111. In this recording one has the opportunity to listen magnificent guitar music by the Venezuelan composer Lauro, performed with extreme virtouosite and deep understanding by Castro Balbi."
