"This second disc is a must have companion to the first... Basically a tribute to Hondo Crouch, the late "owner" of Luckenbach. A live album with one of the best renditions of "L.A. Freeway" he's ever recorded and the "Sea Cruise Medly" is not to be missed! If you're a JJW fan, you need both volumes of this album."
One good CD, one not-so-good CD

"I love the live recordings and several of the studio recordings. This album represents the last recordings of the Lost Gonzo Band (Inman, Nunn, Livingston, et al) and the first recordings of his later band (Rambo, Wynan, Cobb, etc.). The live cuts are the Gonzos as well as the better studio cuts. The follow-up band is not as good (and never was, IMHO).I never understand the obsession with Hondo. Yes, I lived in Austin and visited Luckenbach; it reminds me of when a good friend really likes someone that you think is just okay (or not nice at all). Hence, recordings of his poetry, etc. are an indulgence of the artist (similar to Paul McCartney inflicting Linda Eastman on us or John Lennon inflicting Yoko Ono on us). Avoid the Hondo-related cuts and take the new band with a grain of salt."
I, on the other hand, love the Hondo stuff...

"First of all, why they would ever turn this into Volume 1 and Volume 2 I don't understand. You need to buy them both. The music is sensational if you like Austin music at all. The Hondo poetry, I think, is great. It puts your head in exactly the right spot to fully appreciate the music. Just so no one gets scared of all this talk about Hondo and cowboy poetry, the cuts are short and sweet. Get both volumes. I think that if you have this and can't see clear to get most or all of JJW's stuff, this set is the one to get."
A man must carry on

"Some of the Scampwalkers best work ever. But I ordered this for a friend on Dec. 16, 2005. It still has not arrived. I've spoken to customer reps 3 times from Amazon.com. I'm tired of apologies, and the delivery date is now pushed back to June-July 2006, so if you want this great music, don't try to get it from Amazon."
