Synopsis

Product Description
Grammy nominated Jennifer Knapp returns from a seven year hiatus with a new album, Letting Go (Graylin Records/Thirty Tigers) on May 11th, 2010. Recorded in Nashville, Letting Go was produced by Paul Moak (Mat Kearney, Martha Wainwright, Amy Grant) and features ten folk-rock songs showcasing her astonishing straightforwardness and honesty. Knapp s impressive history includes selling over one million albums with her previous releases, Kansas (debut 1998), Lay It Down (2000), and The Way I Am (2001). The Kansas-born musician toured the globe with artists such as Jars of Clay and was featured on 1999 s Lillith Fair Tour. Jennifer scored a Grammy nod in 2002 along with other awards and nominations. With a considerable fan base, critical and commercial successes, Knapp walked away from it all at the height of her career. After seven years of soul searching and time spent in Australia, Knapp comes full circle in 2010 with a new album, new tour, and a renewed love of music. This spring she will preview her new music on a co-headline tour with Derek Webb, kicking off on March 5th in New York City. She will play on the revamped Lilith Fair tour, the first one in 10 years. Since Jennifer played on the last one in 99, being asked to play the re-launch is very special, a reminder of why Jennifer came back to her musical roots.

CD Reviews

The wait was long...and worth it

"I had suspected Jennifer's hiatus was more than just because she was tired and needed a break from the music scene and that she was struggling with something much more, being lesbian and reconciling that with everything she has been taught. As a gay fan I am so proud of her. All three of her albums are still a goto in my large collection, especially Kansas and The Way I am - In Two (the Lament) and Sing Mary Sing are often on repeat.

This album is just as incredible and definitely showcases in her lyrics her personal reconciliation with everything she had been lead to believe and what truly is, which is that she is as God created her. I am hoping with her performances she will be able to break the negative barriers that have been created by both the christian and gay camps and that one can be blessed to be both.

Thank you Jennifer for returning to your music, to truly loyal fans as well as many new ones and to your freedom."
Hey, it's just music -- really good music

"Jennifer Knapp is a minstrel and a poet -- a musician. She's not a terrorist or some sort of destroyer of ideals. She is who she is. Like most of us, not perfect but trying to navigate this world using her gifts and talents to help and affect others -- and because it's what and who she is. I'm a Christian and I hold principles that can't be compromised or tainted and so sometimes, I can't agree with myself -- the choices I make that violate what I believe, but it doesn't negate the love I have for others or my ability to express beauty -- and to be made better as I grow and struggle. Be strong and secure in what you believe and try to stop depending on others' perfect adherence to what you believe, to make you feel OK. When you feel an 'insider' has failed you, look at yourself and remember the last time you also failed. Have compassion, but respond as you must.

It's music - high quality music. I'd rather be lifted by Jennifer's new music than by some of the darker, hard rock 'Christian' music that some of the church Youth Groups are allowed to listen to. She's not promoting sexual preference, even passively. I think she just felt she owed her fans an explanation."
Powerful stuff!

"Jennifer's songs grab you right from the start. Intelligent and emotional lyrics, catchy melodies, and an amazing vocal presence by Ms Knapp. I didn't know her music before, but now I am hooked. Expect great things from this artist..."
