Synopsis

Product Description
Part folkie, part indie-rocker, part comic book artist - how does indigenous New Yorker Jeffrey Lewis do it? After a 2008 spent mostly on the road, including support tours with Jarvis Cocker, The Cribs, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, The Mountain Goats, and more, with artistic and literary projects all over the map, and with his recent album of anarcho-punk covers "12 Crass Songs" still making waves (4 stars in Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Mojo, Uncut, and more), Jeffrey has somehow managed to find the time to record his best album yet. "'Em Are I" is an eleven-song production that seems to reflect a love of the last forty years of popular music, all filtered through Jeff's unmistakable idiosyncratic muse. Vinyl contains lead guitar cameo from J Mascis and includes an MP3 coupon.

CD Reviews

Can't believe I'm the 1st one to write a review about it!

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Amazon.com put this album in their "Outstanding 2009 Albums You Might Have Missed" list. And deservedly so. Though forgotten in most (if not all) "Best of 2009" lists, this album, which I bought on release in vinyl form, is a very satisfying collection of well-crafted, reasonably lo-fi indie pop-rock songs with twists. Twists such as a child choir and a trumpet solo here and there if my memory serves me well. I should mention witty lyrics but I'm not sure I've got enough qualifications for that. The guy gained some cult-ish notoriety with a previous album of covers of Crass songs. Crass being a legendary UK anarcho-punk band from way back when. I also bought that album from which "Punk Is Dead" is perhaps the best track. Seriously, you can't let this LP sink without trace from your memories of 2009."
