CD ReviewsModern Psychedelia From Sheryl Crow Collaborator Eric R. Last | San Bruno, CA United States | 08/13/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "Jeff Trott's main claim to fame is collaborating extensively with Sheryl Crow on many of her biggest hits. Prior to working with Crow, he played lead guitar for the late, lamented San Francisco band Wire Train, and also toured with World Party and others. On his own, he displays an obvious affection for classic 60's psychedelia, but gives it a modern spin with electronics by Keith Schreiner of Portland, Oregon duo Dahlia. Trott is an excellent songwriter and arranger as well as a fine singer. He handles all guitar chores on the album, but don't look here for burning leads or propulsive rhythm work. Rather, Trott uses his guitar to paint a wide range of sonic colors and textures, displaying a remarkably diverse palette. My favorite track is the irresistibly catchy "Walk A Cloud", with wonderful reverse guitar. Other standouts include the haunting "Nevermind Me", the pop-ish "Maybe That's Something", and the lovely, delicate closing song, "Hard To Say". There's plenty of variety from track to track, but it all holds together extremely well, unified by Trott's unique, psychedelic vision." Jeff Trott has made a fantastic debut Eric R. Last | 07/17/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "An auspicious debut filled with psychedelic fun, yet a thoroughly modern record. Trott offers a plethora of tones and textures, all in service of more superb songwriting."
