CD Reviews

A wild guitarist gets remastered.
Guybert | 07/23/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"What can you say about Jeff Healey? He's a wild man, is what. What a furious style of playing he has. I am reminded of the compassionate playing of Stevie Ray Vaughn when I hear him and indeed, the back cover states that SRV predicted that Jeff Healey would "revolutionize the way the guitar can be played." Boy is he right. But he's not only wild. Included are "Angel Eyes" and "Lost in Your Eyes" which are two softer numbers that are both amazing and touching. "See the Light" establishes his wild style and is amazing to listen to. "Communication Breakdown" is a great cover of the classic Led Zeppelin song and has great harmonica playing in place of singing. This is an excellent album and makes a great introduction to an awesome musician. Buy it and be amazed!"
Not All Of His Best

"This is a hit & miss collection of Healey's "best." Includes essentials like "Confidence Man" & "See the Light", but also includes filler such as "Angel Eyes" & "Lost in Your Eyes." Healey was at his "best" when he was playing all-out blues-rockers, not ballads. By the way, where is "I Think I Love You Too Much"?"
Skip This One

"The last time I listened to Jeff Healey on record it was See The Light on vinyl. When I listened to this CD, I was disappointed, especially as the first four tracks are from See The Light. The sound quality on this "re-mastered" CD could be much better. Arista/BMG has failed to improve on the original recording. Jeff's vocals are too low in the mix, with too much reverb. I had been looking forward to this one. I'm going to try listening to See The Light on CD. Or maybe I'll go back to the vinyl. . ."
