"This disk proved to be a surprise. What is most evident is that it's not organic. The manifold manipulations in the recording of this album can be a bit off-putting at first. For a musician so grounded in the blues it's not what you would expect, such a patchwork of recorded effects co-mingled with guitar rifts. It's not the kind of album you'll be asking "who played the banjo on that cut?".Given a couple of listenings much more is revealed. This is a very cohesive and unique batch of music demonstrating what a creative talent Jeff Beck is. Recorded in 2001,I'm a little late getting to this, but we can see Beck's ahead of the curve, and good music is timeless. There are elements of rock and blues interwoven into a solid, powerful, inspired recording. And as a bonus, the great cover, the workingman's hands, likely those of Jeff Beck. Defying convention,"You Had It Coming" is an example of why Jeff Beck has chosen to make his own way in the world of music. For those who have a wide range of musical favorites, this one is worthy of your attention. It may take a few times through to grow on you as it did me."
