CD ReviewsJay Who? Samantha Carroll | Philadelphia, PA United States | 03/31/2003 (4 out of 5 stars) "I just heard a cut from this album on a local radio show that plays mostly jazz & the announcer didn't know anything about either Jay Klum, who is a woman, or anything about the album. It was the first track, a standard, called I Wish You Love. I wonder if someone sent it to him or he just happened to find it serendipitously (oh, look it up). Don't know, don't care. I just listened to it & was enthralled by the lovely vocal harmonies, Jay's phrasing and the judicious use of the instruments. The announcer on the radio said that all the other musicians on the album shared her surname, but didn't know the particular familial relationship. Me either. I know that I enjoyed it sufficiently to want to find a copy of it & hear more. So will you. If you like Cassandra Wilson, Nora Jones, Peggy Lee, Rosemary Clooney, she sounds like none of these, but her phrasing is as intelligent and unique as theirs. If the rest of the album is as good as the song I heard, it's a winner." Something new on the table MR WT MAKHATHINI | Durban, South Africa | 03/26/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "I just saw her when she was in the country doing some workshops for the poor kids & I was taken by the sound of her big & yet feminine voice. On the opening standard song "i wish U love" its a song that everybody knows right? oh! no her voice is different especially near the end of the song she just blows me away gently until the last note. She plays piano & vocals. only 3 songs are vocal i.e "Lullaby of birdland", & also "Alone together" & 1st track the rest is nice playing of instruments. I like the bass on "you dont know what love is(take2)it seems to bang & bang keeping the whole band tight. The saxophone by Ted Klum comes occasionally well timed with the rest of the group wow! wonderful staff. The music is laid back for relaxation after the end of a hard day more suitable for smokey night clubs or tranquil in your living room while u stretch yoself in a lazy boy sofa & this home cooking girl is sure to bring U food for the soul by tingling yo senses from yo head to yo toes. Come!on buy it U wont regret."
