Synopsis
Album Description After two successful volumes in their Loveslapped By series, the San Francisco house makers known as Loveslap! Recordings throw it into high gear, starting the New Year off right with a CD from one of the most revered and sought after American names in the business, Jay-J. 2003 Grammy nominee for Best Remixer, Jay-J compiles and mixes songs from his favorite artists and labels. A far cry from the scores of bland deep house CD's released over the past few years, Loveslapped Vol. 3 is just as addictive as it is enjoyable. Over the past decade, Jay-J has established a reputation as a producer with the "Midas Touch". Opening Moulton Studios in 1998, Jay-J has released records on nearly every noteworthy house label from around the world, and has had an indelible impact on the sound of San Francisco dance music. As a DJ, Jay-J is known around the world for drawing huge crowds and playing soulful anthems to devastating effect. He brings his attention to detail and quality to every gig, proving he's every bit as potent in the booth as he is in the studio. Let's be clear: it's the music itself that makes this mix so special. Jay-J includes several of the tracks he's done for Loveslap including the brand new disco soul stepper "Higher Ground". Llorca makes the role call with his excellent funk guitar punctuated mix of Miss Mee's "Surprise Me." The previously unreleased More Vox Mix of Kaskade's garage sizzler "It's You It's Me" sees some well deserved light of day. Movido's wicked reworking of K. Hand's "Get Down" steps up for some serious instrumental business as the disc's energy level is cresting. All killer no filler? This is the music Jay-J makes, it's the music he plays and above all, it's the music he loves. It's soul music with an eye toward the future, music you can listen to, music to DANCE to... |
CD ReviewsWho Taught Who? RNC213 | Los Angeles, CA United States | 11/26/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "I had casually heard that "Jay-J" was instrumental in guiding the talent that is "Miguel Migs", and while I can not substantiate this knowledge even in full recogntion of his earlier joint release with Mr. Migs, his latest, "Loveslapped III", proves to be the "sleeper of the year"; completely enunciating that sound we associated with the Naked Music label even though not visibly tied. It is a gorgeous blending of the "Blue Note" vibe in "House", with that classic San Francisco "Rag Era" piano so prominient in the early days of "Garage". Of note, there is also a "Pop" and "Jazz" genre which makes it all so seemingly palatable to the very diverse audiences which explore dance music these days. A great find, and I must recommend it for every sophisticated social event that occurs before, during or after your Disco night out on the town." Jay-J at his best matt a. | Los Angeles, CA | 01/30/2004 (4 out of 5 stars) "What can be said about the man that brings his soulful deep touch to everything he does? While certainly not forging new territory in the the world of house, Jay-J's Loveslapped certainly brings it back to where it all begins for many of us househeads and truly reminds us why we dig his deep soulful grooves. Included are not only his tracks but many of his favorites, all mixed together with great love and passion. A wonderful addition to anyone's collection." This CD is incredible! Jeff M | Walnut Creek, CA United States | 02/26/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Best deep funky house CD in my collection. Also check out Jay-J Reflections! This one flows from begining to end!"
