CD Reviews

Jay and the Americans sing Yiddish Song: a gem!!1
Blanche Dubois | Brooklyn, New York | 07/27/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Surprises, surprises.
Who would expect to hear one of the best yiddish songs in a
Jay and the Americans CD. Here we find a gem. The song WHERE IS
THE VILLAGE? ( Vi iz dus gesele) was recorded by Jay and the
Americans in the 1960's and they sang it to yiddish audiences
in the kosher hotels of the catskill mountains in New York.
For years and years I searched for this song. Well, finally they
have included the same in this CD. Sung in perfect yiddish by
Howie Kane. The song was arranged by the great Artie Butler.
It is a sad jewish song ( similar to My Yiddishe Mame), and it
could be considered a song about the holocaust. Jay Black still
includes this song in his concerts. I am so happy to find this
gem. ENJOY, ENJOY."
