CD Reviews

Javier Solis : The Mexican Frank Sinatra
Anthony Melendez | Moreno Valley, CA. | 08/22/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I Liken this CD to Frank Sinatra's "Sings For Only The lonely" Most of the songs listed here are for the broken hearted And Javier Solis sings each song as if though he feels what the brokenhearted are going through!
This is an absolutely "must have" CD for music lovers or aficionados of fine Mariachi music, with music arrangements by F.Z. Maldonado. Solis' voice was at it's prime when this album was recorded, and in my opinion, no one can match the Bravura of his vocal style!
I give it a perfect "10""

"Uno de los albumes mas reconocidos y admirados en Colombia del artista mexicano. Temas como Payaso, Se te olvida, Cuatro cirios, Cenizas y Cataclismo nos permiten asociar estas bellas melodías a la inconfundible voz de Javier."

"The first thing one notices besides the magnificnet voice of el sonorense Javier Solis, is the meticulous arrangements of the music. Arranged and directed by the pianist and composer Fernando Maldoando primarily, this CD is a work of art, fine art, cultured and refined Mexican historical art. Javier Solis's voice is unquestionably one of the standards by which all other boleros are judged, unfortunatly many fall short. The texture of his voice is like a great painting, very rich and drawing attention to every sound he makes, much as a superb painting allows the eye to wander but holds your attention by it's sheer beauty. Javier Solis was blessed with one one of those voices that comes around every so often, but not often enough. I'm not sure that he has been appreciated enough in this era as one of the best boleros ever but without doubt his voice transcends time, cultures and genres. There are some really beautiful songs here including "Se Te Olvida"(La Mentira), "Ese Bolero Mio", "Cenizas", the French song"Porque me dejas"(Et maintenant) and the song possibly most identified with Solis, "Payaso." The dramatic presentations on this CD are romantic representations of a bygone era but appealing to the universal theme of love that never dies. A time period passes but the songs of love are never extinguished, the eternal flame of amor lives on. The funny thing is that this music can be appreciated no matter what, whether in love or not. It sings and resonates feelings that everyone has and some are just afforded the opportunity to act upon. It just sounds better when you have someone special to share it with or think about. The mariachis featured are all superb and include Jalisco de Pepe Villa, Nacional de Arcadio Elias and America de Alfredo Serna. The harmonious melodies are equally matched by the outstanding arrangements of accompanying mariachi on this epic, classic CD that reflects 1965 with 2001 technology. Great music for the romantic that exists in everyone's heart, it doesn't get much better than Javier Solis for boleros."
