"Someone had told me about Jason Spirit and I bopped over to Amazon to check it out. I can say that despite the popular misconception that there aren't any original entertaining or vibrant NYC are musicians these days, Jason Spirit seems to be living up to high ideals on this record.What I like is his ability to fuse soul with touches of jazz, or funk, or settle into some groove. I kind of expected the flute playing to bring me down or lull me to sleep, since that's not really my thing, but it actually fits; I guess it's not what you use, but how you use it.Most importantly, this kid had lyrics. He's pretty conscious about racial and ethical issues, but doesn't come off as preachy, and I really dug songs like "what if all the brothers and sisters got together" and "this world's for all the people, not just one knd of people" as well as the basic love song stuff like "daring to love again" and "from the beginning."I wish more cats in the US were doing this music; I'd put him up there with Jamiroquai and those guys, but he also has some old soul-singer thing with him too...Cop the album, and put it in the rotation next time you have some babe over :-)"
