Synopsis

Album Description
What Love Will Do, co-produced by Magness along with Dave Darling (Brian Setzer, Tom Waits), features 13 powerful songs each imbued with Magness' expressive emotional depth. Magness reaches heights only hinted at in her previous recordings, interpreting new material written especially for her and songs from Little Milton, Tina Turner, Bill Withers, Al Green, Candi Staton, Dorothy Moore, and Marvin Gaye. Her impassioned singing takes each song from deep within her being and projects it out directly into the heart and soul of her audience, making What Love Will Do essential listening for blues, roots, rock and soul music lovers everywhere.

CD Reviews

Amazing!
J. Monteith | Atlanta, GA | 06/11/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is her best CD yet, every song is soooo goood! Janiva has a unique and beautiful voice, seems to get better with age. I highly recommend this CD for all blues lovers, and those who just love music. She is not female blues artist of year for nothing! Also a great performer, be sure to catch her show when she is in your area."

"No wonder Janiva has repeated as Female Blues Artist of the Year! From start to finish this album is absolutely incredible. Janiva pours her heart into every note and it is a moving experience to listen to. I recently saw Janiva with her terrific band at the Rythym Room in Phoenix. She is a great performer - very personable, totally positive, and so comfortable in her own skin. Not only is Janiva a great performer, but she is also a wonderful role model!"
She's got her voodoo, mojo, and hot legs working

"This woman once again proves to the younger musicians and everyone else willing to listen: Age is just a number and experience counts for everything.

She pulls lyrics form some of the great including Annie Lennox! And holy mother og pete's christ can this woman sing! I saw her live and this album does a pretty nice job of pulling off her live sound. It is so raw and gritty like best Stax records were. Don't hesitate appreciate and buy this album."
