Product DescriptionJanis Martin is acknowledged as the very first female rock n roller, having signed with a major record label in 1956 when she was just sixteen. Marketed as "The Female Elvis", she cut some of the best, most collectable R&R and Rockabilly records of the era. Indeed, the south African 10" LP "Janis & Elvis", which featured four tracks by each artists, was for many years the most sought after R&R artefact in the record collecting world (Janis' four sides are included herein). Recorded in Nashville and New York, with A-team sessions bands including men like Chet Atkins, Grady Martin, Hank Garland, George Barnes, Floyd Cramer, Shorty Long, Buddy Harman and Bunny Shawker, these are exquisite recordings. This 33 track CD comprises everything that Janis recorded between 1956 & 1958, and the four sides she recorded for the Belgian Palette label in 1960. If that wasn't enough, also included are a trio of previously unreleased radio broadcasts from 1957, making this a truly unique package.
