Synopsis

Album Description
We all know that music can be a powerful way to change your mood. Music can also be a powerful way to harmonize you when stress leaves you out of balance - unable to relax fully or drained of vitality and joy.- Finding a healthy balance is the foundation of Ayurveda, the 5,000-year-old healing tradition of India. Ayurveda teaches that human beings are made up of three essential qualities, or "doshas," called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, and that only when these qualities are in harmony with one another can you experience radiant health, abundant energy, and the full expression of your potential. These three beautiful musical programs, created by an Ayurvedic clinician, are designed to harmonize these energies within you. Listen closely for a "musical meditation," or play these unique recordings in the background while you do other activities. The enclosed notes will help you to identify your specific type (dosha) according to the principles of Ayurveda and clearly explain how each recording can be used to bring you tranquillity, aliveness, and optimal performance. Janetta Petkus, Ph.D., was the Sound & Music Therapist for the Ultimate Health Center, an Ayurvedic clinic in Massachusetts. She is also a concert pianist, composer, writer, and artist with a doctorate in music. She lectures on vibrational medicine in the United States and abroad.

CD Reviews

J. Petkus | USA | 10/17/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"As the composer of this music, I wish to respond to the unhappy reviewer who could not accept my untraditional presentation of Ayurvedic concepts because of the sounds I chose in support of them. The ability to exercise taste and judgment based upon serious study of traditional Indian music is truly commendable and deeply appreciated; the display of an excess of negative Pitta energy that is pointedly dismissive, bordering on the caustic, is simply harmful and very misleading. This album was not composed as a mindless version of, or substitute for, the great music of India. It was written for Westerners, especially Americans, who are just becoming aware of some of the ancient rejuvenating insights of Ayurveda. As with any deep subject, there is an esoteric realm of understanding (for the select few), and an exoteric realm (for the general public). One has to begin somewhere. I chose to begin here. With time, discipline, and dedication we may all move on, I hope."

"I loved Petkus' first single CD, "Moving in Time", so I wondered if I would be disappointed in this second effort. Happily, I must say that this set equals "Moving in Time" in its beauty, quality, and depth. I especially enjoyed Track 1 of the Pitta CD, and the Kapha CD is perfect for unwinding. For those that spend long periods at the computer, the Vata CD is just the thing for keeping you energized and creative!"
Janetta Petkus is a genius.

"Petkus has created compositions that will heal, relax or energize, and draw you into meditation. Very, very beautiful work."
