A set of original compositions for hammer dulcimer described as "Improvizations", using a handcrafted instrument with a range of over four fully chromatic octaves, and with a two-pedal "damper" to allow for subtle adustments to overtones and harmonies. This is not "trad." music, despite the long history of this unusual mallet instrument in its many pan-global permutations, but rather contemporary pieces keyed to its capabilities and tonalities, and improvised by the composer.

Janover writes in the liner notes: "All the sounds you hear on this recording are made by this instrument. There are no overdubs, additional musicians, reverbs, any effects or processing. An attempt was made to faithfully preserve the instrument's natural sound as much as possible."
